Formed in 1979 by singer/songwriter Carl Worner through an ad in Aquarian Weekly, a NJ rock music publication, Carl was looking for totally dedicated, serious musicians to play in an all originals rock band and within a year of its formation was signed to Capitol Records. (Columbia Records also expressed interest in the band). Their first show (calling themselves The 80's) was at The Fast Lane in Asbury Park, NJ. When signed to Capitol Records they changed their name to The Elektrics. Their first single "Some Lovin' Tonight" got airplay on most rock/pop radio stations across the country especially on WYSP-FM, a Philadelphia based radio station that played their entire album on the air and conducted several live interviews with members of the group.
The Elektrics opened for bands like The Motels, The Pychedelic Furs, The Shirts, Iggy Pop and Alice Cooper at the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, NJ as well as many other famous music clubs like the Bottom Line in NYC. They also toured the east coast with Robert Palmer.
Carl Worner, lead vocalist and once a professional Broadway actor, gave up acting to persue his true dream, to become a singer in a rock & roll band. Using his theatrical skills he performed with masks and various props as well as with a mime troupe. He wrote "Some Lovin' Tonight" and "Boardwalk Beauty", the two singles that were released from thier first album "Current Events".
Marco Delmar, guitarist and songwriter was highly recommended by Annie Golden of The Shirts, a singer and actress that Carl worked with on Broadway who knew that he needed a rocking guitar player to complete his band. Marco contributed several songs on "Current Events"..."Tonight", "Time After Time" and "Indifferent". Chris James, bass player and youngest member of the group, Chris was 17 when he joined the group not as a bass player but as a guitarist. But once Marco filled that position Chris still wanted to be in the band so he learned how to play bass very quickly. Chris wrote several songs on "Current Events"..."We Are Americans", "Going To The Movies" and "Anyway". Bob Drew, keyboardist and hairstylist, Bob joined because he was friends with Chris and knew how to play keyboards. He also cut most of the band members hair while on tour. Andy Papa, drummer and family man, Andy had a wife and two young children and gave up his job working for General Motors to play drums in an original rock and roll band.
The Elektrics produced two albums. Both albums are usually available on eBay.
The Elektrics first album "Current Events" Produced by Peter Ker released in 1980 and recorded in various studios in NYC including Electric Lady Studios, the recording studio built for legendary guitarist Jimi Hendricks. "Current Events" includes the singles "Some Lovin' Tonight" and the uncensored version of "Boardwalk Beauty", a song Carl wrote while working in a haunted house one summer in Seaside Heights, NJ.
The Elektrics second album "State Of Shock" was produced by Tony Bonjiovi and Lance Quinn and recorded at The Power Station in NYC. It features their rocking version of "Go Now" and was written mostly in the studio. It features songs written by members of the group who collaborated on many of the songs.
